Event Description

A course of lectures comprising ten 2 hour sessions on Wednesday evenings. Tutor: Bob Callow B.Sc; Ph.D. Bob is a retired botanist and member of the Guild who has presented many courses for us. Alexander von Humbolt (1769-1859) was a tireless explorer, observer and recorder, admired by Goethe, Jefferson and Darwin. His legacy is preserved in the names of places, organisms and global phenomena. He was a pioneer of plant geography, climatology, geomagnetism and oceanography. Humbolt was a prolific writer who left vivid descriptions of his travels, discoveries, and insight.
